Balak – Drawing Fire from a Stone

When a leading shaman magician, King Balak, teams up with powerful wizard, Bila’am, to curse the Jewish people, except that the curse is transformed by G-d into a blessing. Mistakenly standing on a hill of flint stones proves their undoing. A flint stone always has the potential of fire by rubbing it with another stone, even if submerged in water for a long time. Likewise the Jewish person, even if spiritually dormant like a stone, has the spark within which can be animated into a roaring fire of Jewish identity and expression
